Woman fleeing Afghanistan gives birth mid-air
A 26-year-old woman gave birth during her evacuation from Afghanistan to England.
A woman fleeing Afghanistan for the UK gave birth to a baby girl mid-flight on Saturday. Soman Noori, 26, started having contractions during a Turkish Airlines flight from Dubai to Birmingham… 10,000 meters above the Earth! Without a doctor on board, the airline staff helped the young mother during her labor.
Soman Noori and her baby, named Havva, are in good health, according to a statement from the airline. It is the third child of the young woman and her husband, Taj Moh Hammat, who was traveling with her, according to photos published by the company. A photo of the airline staff, holding the baby wrapped in a blue blanket, was also shared.
The plane, which was carrying Afghan citizens working for the UK, made an emergency landing in Kuwait before continuing on its way.
The British ended the evacuations on Saturday during the day. Prime Minister Boris Johnson has sent his thanks to those who led the operation, in which more than 15,000 people were evacuated in less than two weeks.
