The 16 trends male fashion stars of spring / summer 2022
FashionIn two words? Positive attitude.
By Alexandre Marain
If spring-summer 2021 wanted to be free and full of hope, with brightly colored pieces, suits stripped of all formality, the entry into force of jogging (with couture accents, of course), and pants extra-large where comfort reigns supreme, in 2022, houses and designers are offering new silhouettes in the style of an offensive against the pandemic that we have experienced.
How will men dress in spring-summer 2022?
Over the past two seasons, designers have been forced to compete in creativity to present their collections: when some bet on the format lookbook, like JW Anderson, others played the video card, like Balenciaga. Although many have decided to continue this momentum, spring-summer 2022 marks the great comeback of physical fashion shows, a breath of fresh air in the fashion sphere.
Renewed creative energy and optimism remain the watchwords of Spring-Summer 2022 Fashion Week. Certainly, we are witnessing the emergence of a new formality via costumes with an office wear spirit -but always effortless- and the hegemony of the color black. On the other hand, the wardrobes are really designed to reconnect with the social life that we have been missing for the past couple of years. Enter the scene of vibrant colors, revisited cardigans, party boy looks haloed with glitter pants designed to awaken the night owl that sleeps in everyone. Without forgetting the audacity shown by the designers this season, like a counter-attack on the freedom of which we have been deprived, by introducing initially feminine pieces into the heart of the men's wardrobe, such as heeled shoes, the crop-top and shorts reimagined as skirts. Focus on the 16 men's fashion trends for spring-summer 2022.
Cutout
“Always little holes” as Gainsbourg would say. This season, Nicolas Di Felice unveiled his very first men's collection for Courrèges and one of the fashion statements for summer 2022 was indeed the openwork pieces. No wonder then that other designers have followed the trend, like the Rick Owens bodysuit and the deconstructed tank top by Y/Project.
Bermuda shorts
A must-have last summer, Bermuda shorts are still essential this season. Do not panic, although extra-short shorts are not really part of the trends, they are nonetheless cult and ultra desirable.
Arms forward
Guests and personalities did not hesitate to wear them in the streets of Fashion Week: the sleeveless sweater - with V or round neck - became a hit. If Prada has made it one of its spearheads with delicately styled models, other houses like Dior Men and Erdem have appropriated this knitted piece to infuse it with all kinds of patterns. An asset to reveal your biceps.

Shorts… or skirt?
Skirts are no longer reserved for women. When Loewe and Phipps introduce the piece almost verbatim, Prada plays the experimentation card with a half-shorts, half-skirt model with 60's accents.
Cardigan
Extreme length, vintage accents and colorful knit. Long neglected, the cardigan, the quintessential retro piece, is coming out of the closet to boost its fashion quotient and proclaim itself a men's essential for spring-summer 2022.
Torse statement
The man of summer 2021? He strips off, partially or completely, and reveals one of his resolutely masculine assets: his torso. For the young Spanish house Alled-Martinez, the t-shirt will abandon its main purpose to wrap hastily around the body while for Dolce & Gabbana, a simple swimsuit will suffice. Next year, men will not be afraid.
The office life
Formal aesthetic yes, but stripped of any hindrance. Blazers, suit pants, shirts, even ties… It's the whole vocabulary of officewear that the designers have reviewed and corrected for a summer that's both chic and free.
Under acid
Fluorescent green, neon pink, tangerine orange, electric blue… A bold chromatic range for an intrepid, optimistic and colorful summer. JW Anderson, Louis Vuitton and Loewe have already mastered them brilliantly.
Back to black
After a colorful counter-attack this summer, fashion is asserting its return to basics and classic tailoring with a single color: black. When Kim Jones for Dior Men revisits his iconic, impeccably cut Oblique suit, Saint Laurent by Anthony Vaccarello bets on his signature minimalist aesthetic. Easy but effective, therefore.
Statement sandal
Forget the slipper. After several confinements and almost two years of fighting the pandemic, it's time to abandon your unbeatable mules and slippers for a pair of sandals. This summer, the designers gave themselves to their heart's content with multiple aesthetic experiments and an assumed comeback of flip-flops.
Think pink
Already seen on the catwalks last summer season, pink, pastel or neon, is unquestionably the chromatic highlight of spring-summer 2022. total look at Louis Vuitton, or sportswear version at GmbH, there are still in mind the colors to succumb to.
Varsity jacket
If you only had to invest in one jacket to be right on trend, this would be it. It has been seen countless times in television series and other purely American “college movies” like Grease. The varsity jacket (university jacket in French), worn in particular by athletes from the football, rugby or baseball teams of their high school or university, has subtly slipped into the men's collections for spring-summer 2022.
Party boy
It's time to bring out the night owl in you with a series of bright and daring glitter pieces, like the moire pants of 'Etro and the Dolce & Gabbana.
Back to green
With their collections, the designers make a return to nature worthy of Marie-Antoinette when she decided to flee the tumult of the Court in 1783. Head to the countryside, with pastel colors where shades of green exercise their power. Seen at Fendi, Thebe Magugu and Ermenegildo Zegna.
Masculinized heels
Goth fever! Like the skirt, the heeled shoes – boots version more exactly – leave their feminine attribute to integrate the male wardrobe. The watchword, in short? Dare!
Summer leather
Usually worn in mid-season, leather travels through time and space to assert its summer value in pants or a total look.
