Overcome OVERWEIGHT or OBESITY, 7 principles to get there
A humorist said “quitting smoking couldn't be easier: I've done it a dozen times”. I could say the same about diets and the ever-renewed battles against overweight. "We're not going to lie to each other", I'm obese.
I have tried almost everything. If I do the math, when I was 60, I had almost doubled the weight I weighed at 20... To be more precise, when I step on my connected scale, the synthetic voice protests: "only one person time ! Then she says three numbers. Good news, the first digit on the left is still a “1”. But that's not enough to reassure me.
I know why despite the fights I have always put on weight again. But that is not the topic of the day. I tried, out of order and I forgot some on the way: pineapple capsule cures, the Montignac or Dukan methods, the diligent reading of various very relevant books, including Dr. Fricker's Weight Loss Quickly and Well, which I I had known alongside Professor Apfelbaum at the Bichat Hospital. Their method worked well, it was perhaps THE big mistake I made: abandoning it on the way.
I followed many psychotherapies, behavioral or Rogerian, I tried hypnosis and acupuncture. I stuffed myself with amphetamines, Tenuate Dospan, Isomeride, Acomplia, also Mediator, so many drugs withdrawn from sale for their sometimes disastrous side effects. I did express diets, given in Weight Watchers, imposed on myself diets and sometimes extravagant recipes. If I remained insensitive to the calls from the foot of the company "Comme j'aime", it is because its hype during the TV broadcasts of the Tour de France was really painful. No offense to Henri Lecomte or Benjamin Castaldi, triumphantly announcing their successes, any good nutritionist will tell you: miracle diets are unbalanced. They can trigger deficiencies, and if they work in the very short term, they all lead to a recovery of the lost pounds, with a bonus, as soon as the pressure is released. I know the film, I've seen it ten times!
With their permission, this article is based on advice asserted as essential principles at the Clinique de Villecresnes (94). Its great professionals, specialized doctors and dietitians, treat only two diseases there that are unfortunately often complementary: obesity and diabetes. We thank them for their inspiration.
Before recalling the 7 iron principles that must accompany us morning, noon, evening, in order to lose weight, let's remember this. There are 3 types of obesity, increasingly serious, so called:
- Moderate: BMI is between 30 and 34.9
- Severe: BMI is between 35 and 39.9
- Morbid: it is greater than 40.
The BMI, remember, is the body mass index, a quantity that allows you to estimate your corpulence. How to calculate your BMI? Take your weight in kilograms. Divide it by the height (ex: 1.70 meters), which has been squared (1.70 X 1.70). The calculation is the same for a woman or a man.
Example 1 : Weight 78 Kg, Height 1.58, gives BMI = 78/2.50 = 31.25. Moderate obesity.
Example 2 : Weight 120 kg. Height 1.80 gives BMI = 120/3.42 = 37.03 Severe obesity.
Example 3 : Weight 110 Kg, Size 1.64 gives BMI = 110/2.68 = 41.91. Morbid obesity.
And below 30? We are said to be “overweight” with a BMI between 25 and 30. Below 25, everything is fine. As for the word "morbid", if it is difficult to digest, it is not there to please. It speaks of the dangerous nature of our disease. I wish you, no, I WISH US to manage to follow these tips to reverse the trend in the long term.
Precision: being adversary of writings in “inclusive” mode, I say it once: here everything is valid for all kinds of individuals. I write in the “neutral” genre. Both men and women are welcome, and all the others too!
