Baby refuses the bottle: how to react?
Difficult, sometimes, not to feel helpless in the face of baby tears.Especially when he refuses not to feed. This is the case of this magicmaman, mother of a 4 month old, who completely refuses the bottle: "It has been 10 days since his father tries to give him, but his answer is always the same: he vomits, heshouts, and its tears are inexhaustible. If unfortunately, we persist, he vomited again.I tried the extraction of milk and two kinds of different formulas as well as three kinds of bottles, without success.I am so desperate by this situation...What to do ?»»
Go from breast to bottle: an adaptation time
Véronique Darmangeat's response, lactation consultant:
At that age, many breastfed babies refuse the bottle. If your baby also refuses with your breast milk, it is because he does not like the bottled object in himself. It is a normal reaction for a baby accustomed to suckling within: the contact in the mouth is not at all the same.He must learn to use the bottle and accept this new contact. For that, he may need a little time.I suggest that you don't try to force it to take the bottle, it may turn it and it may refuse for a long time. You just have to offer him every day and stop as soon as he gets angry. What facilitates things in general is to place the baby in the face of the person who gives him the bottle, in a baby deckchair for example. The position is thus very different from that of the breast. Many babies prefer it.You can also go back to work without anxiety: if your baby refuses to eat in your absence, he risks nothing. If we do not insist on the bottle when he refuses, in general, he waits for mom without crying particularly...And he catches up by tightening upon his return. When he understands that mom is really not there all day, baby usually starts to accept the bottle in a few days.He accepts it all the better as he does not feel pressure around him. This is a question very frequently asked on my blog, I therefore suggest these two articles as well as their comments

Mixed breastfeeding: Quésaco?
For various and varied reasons, their own, at the birth of their baby, some mothers opt for mixed breastfeeding. The principle: feed baby alternating breast and bottle.A particularly practical option for mothers wishing to resume their professional activity after the birth of their child.
Be aware, however, that this diet can generate some confusions at Bébé at the start.By feeding their child bottle, parents tend to encourage him so that he ends his bottle completely.Which does not have to be when baby is nourished within, since it is him, and he alone, who then controls the feeding. In addition, the passage from breast to bottle, then from the bottle to the breast, can also be a little bit disconcerting for baby, in terms of flow.In the bottle, milk comes indeed in a relatively fluid and continuous manner, while within, it arrives by flow.Baby may therefore get impatient!
In conclusion, baby may therefore need a short time to adapt before familiarizing himself with mixed breastfeeding.
