Consumed every morning, this sweet treat helps burn calories
If we already knew the virtues of dark chocolate on weight loss… Did you know that milk chocolate also had its effects? In reality, all chocolates (apart from white) have their benefits for health and figure.
But it is consumed at THESE specific times of the day that the sweet dish delivers all its slimming benefits... And it's science that says so.
How does eating chocolate in the morning make you lose weight?
Many people who pay attention to their line watch the contents of their plate very closely: healthy foods, rich in nutrients, low in fat, are thus preferred. But the virtues of foods also depend on the different times when you choose to consume them. Many scientists have demonstrated this!
Chocolate for breakfast curbs sweet cravings and excess fat storage
Eating chocolate at breakfast helps reduce cravings and cravings for sweets throughout the day. When they are excessive, these sweet snacks are detrimental to the silhouette: they cause a level of glucose in the blood that is too high in relation to the needs of our body, and this excess ends up being transformed and stored in the form of fat.
In this sense, the scientists of the study found that the people studied did not gain weight when they ate it in the morning, unlike those who did not eat it.
Morning chocolate reduces stress, cortisol and appetite, all at the same time
Study researchers also noted that cortisol (also known as the “stress hormone”) levels were lower when participants ate chocolate in the morning. Chocolate therefore has the quality of regulating cortisol. However, we know that cortisol increases the appetite of the person concerned when it is too high. Thus, lower cortisol levels lead to a lower stress-related appetite in the end.
Pre-bedtime is also good for weight loss
According to the same study, consuming a little chocolate just before going to bed is beneficial for the silhouette. On the one hand, it allows you to have a better quality of sleep, with more regular rhythms. However, as you know, sleep is essential to weight loss since, in a night of 7 hours, we eliminate nearly 300 calories without doing anything but closing our eyes!
On the other hand, it has been proven to reduce the appetite of those affected. The latter therefore consume fewer calories in the day in fine.
How to consume chocolate to maximize its slimming effects?
Obviously, like any food, chocolate must be consumed in moderation and sparingly if you want to enjoy its benefits without worrying about its harmful effects.
Melissa Azzaro, dietitian-nutritionist interviewed by our colleagues at Very Well Health, recommends: "Keep your chocolate consumption to a reasonable portion size, for example, one ounce (or 28 grams per day), if you don't want not increase your waistline or you are depriving yourself of other more essential nutrients in your diet. So square or tablet: the choice is quickly made when you want to maintain your weight!
In addition, even if all chocolates (except white) have useful benefits in a weight loss process, some are richer in nutrients than others... We are of course talking about dark chocolate (minimum 70 %). The latter has more antioxidants (because more cocoa) and much less sugar than its milk equivalent.
Finally, the last tip highlighted by health specialists: the easiest way, when you want to avoid any temptation to overdo it, is to consume chocolate in its most neutral form; namely, pure cocoa powder. Mixing it in your milk preparations such as a healthy milkshake, smoothie or porridge or in Greek yogurt can be an ideal solution.
