Do you want to repaint a melamine piece of furniture, but you don't dare? However, it’s simple to make! Each step is however essential to the success of your project.
1.First sand the surfaces of the melamine to eliminate imperfections or anything that can harm the finish.Use an EMERI FINE GRAIN paper 400.Pon everywhere.
2.Clean all surfaces with the powerful cleanser all use p.T.S.(Trisodic phosphate), then rinse the surfaces with clear water abundantly. This product eliminates wax and fat.As it is toxic, it is important to wear gloves and read the manufacturer's instructions beforehand. After rinsing, let dry completely before going to the next step.
3.Apply a layer of oil primer - this step is the most important - as evenly as possible, to cover all the surfaces of the melamine.Use a roller to paint to apply the primer so that the surfaces are smooth and sliding without.Let dry for 24 hours for a better result. If only one layer did not completely cover the surfaces of the furniture, apply a second. This primer will allow the finishing painting, applied to the next step, to adhere perfectly, therefore, to last.
4.You can now paint the furniture with a water or chalk paint, your choice.Ideally, apply two generous layers of roller paint, taking care to allow each of the applications to dry.You may have to apply a 3rd layer if the color chosen is pale, but generally two layers are enough.
Advice: you can find high -quality paintings in store, designed for furniture, which integrate a primer.Know that, at first, you will still have to apply the oil primer to the previously mentioned.Otherwise, the finish layer will not join melamine and pele.
5.For the finish, choose the varnish that suits your piece of furniture: matt, semi-lusted or shiny. If you use a shiny varnish, the surface will appear lacquered.I suggest you apply at least three layers of varnish for a sustainable finish.
Tip: If you apply a chalk painting, currently very trendy, use the waxes offered by the same manufacturer instead of a varnish. The end result will be most remarkable.
If you apply a painting designed specially for furniture, or bearing the "finite melamine" indication, you do not need to apply a varnish, unless you want a more durable surface and easier to clean.
