A young mother denounced the "privilege of dads", well known to mothers. When their spouse takes care of their child he is a hero, whereas when they do, it is perfectly normal.

All moms will have noticed. When they take care of their child(ren), everyone seems to find it perfectly normal. Whereas when the father does it, he is immediately considered a hero. An injustice linked to the fact that, before, men did not take care of family life. Although progress has been made in this area, it is still considered extraordinary that they take care of their offspring. It's called "dad privilege," and Chloe Sexton knows it well. Mother of a little boy, Theodore (6 months) and business manager at 27, she recently saw her husband being applauded... For things she does every day. Elle dénonce le Elle dénonce le

She denounces the privilege of dads

Chloe Sexton lives in Memphis, Tennessee, where she runs a bakery. Her husband is an employee. On TikTok, she says she often takes their son with her when she has to work without counting her hours. Thus, Theodore accompanies her to the bakery and to the wholesalers, even when she has to lift huge sacks of flour. "Nobody blinks," she explains.

But the day her husband had time off and decided to help her with her bakery, nothing was the same. "He was treated like a hero," says Chloe. This happened precisely the day she had to go to the wholesalers. Her husband did the same thing as her, namely to go there with Theodore. "These people see me every week. [...] I am with a child in a baby carrier or 7 months pregnant, carrying 45 kg bags to the trunk of my car. Meanwhile, everyone acts like it's normal. [...] But when my husband carries the baby and goes to the wholesaler for his wife's work, everyone is like, 'Oh my god, you work so hard'", remembers the young mother. And the dad also found it "embarrassing".

Stop pretending it's extraordinary

A dad changing the diaper, picking up his child from nursery, taking him to the park... It's perfectly normal, and it's time to stop acting like it's unbelievable. "He's not a hero. He's just a dad, just a parent, doing the same thing I do every week. Every parent deserves to know they're seen and appreciated," explains, rightly, Chloe Sexton. She elaborates to Buzzfeed, "To me, dad privilege is that subtle little thing that dads get praise for just... being a parent. You fed the baby? What an awesome dad! You carried the baby while mom was taking her bath? That's so generous! Did you bring something back for dinner? What would your family do without you?! It's all those little things that mothers do, and that society thinks they have to do without thinking twice, while fathers are praised for just being there".
