Cloth Diapers vs Disposable Diapers
Will the washable diaper eliminate the disposable diaper?
The composition of a diaper is rarely detailed on the product. A disposable diaper is most often made up of a sheet that will be in contact with the skin. Added to this is a cellulose core, full of absorbent gel (sodium polyacrylate). Its outer layer is waterproof and made of polyethylene or polypropylene.
These many chemicals give the disposable diaper a major environmental impact due to its manufacture, its use and its treatment as waste:
In total, the disposable nappies that you will buy for 1 child represent nearly 1500 euros.
In terms of comfort, even if disposable diapers preserve the skin from moisture and are dermatologically tested, it is possible that your child has allergic reactions (nappy rash) due to the lotions incorporated.
Studies have also shown that bleaching disposable diapers with chlorine generates toxic products such as dioxin. Others highlight the presence of TBT or harmful volatile organic compounds.
Alarming findings that have not prevented disposable diaper manufacturers from marketing diapers that are certainly always more “efficient” but still use more chemicals…
